JpopAsia reported 3 days ago that [Champagne] has renamed themselves as [Alexandros].
This apparently came at the request of the Comité Interprofessionnel du Vin de Champagne, an actual, official body promoting the actual champagne drink, which has its roots traced back to Champagne, France.
For a big player paying attention to an indie Japanese band, I’d say that’s kind of awesome. But getting them to change their name because it was getting too closely associated to a bubbly alcoholic beverage? Now that’s just sad.
There are square brackets in the name already! How much difference is it going to make? And now by being called [Alexandros], you think this is going to stop Greece or any Greek restaurant from taking action? No one’s complaining now because the band’s new name barely registers on the first page of a Google search.
Oh the humanity.
