It’s quite easy to tell when a band enjoys performing together. There’s an energy and synergy that doesn’t compete and overwhelm, and makes the listener completely at ease.
As strange as their name sounds, the band Gesu no Kiwami Otome (literally Girl at the Height of Rudeness) exudes that air of confidence and assurance outwards as well as among the band. Formed by the frontman of indigo la End, Kawatani Enon was said to form the band with musicians he genuinely enjoyed performing with.
While this band was only formed in 2012, its musicians are by no means new to the industry. Both Kawatani and bassist Kyuujitsu Kachou played with indigo la End (the latter left in July 2011), while their equally amazing leading ladies keyboardist ChanMARI and drummer Hona Ikoka play for Crimson and Microcosm respectively.
The result is the kind of sound that reminded me of SAKANACTION and ling tosite sigure (depending on what songs you listen to). The band has also dabbled into rap and pop rock, but it’s their progressive jazzy rhythms sets your feet a-tapping.
Gezu no Kiwami Otome released its latest single Muku Na Kisetsu (「無垢な季節」 Innocent Season) just two days ago, and is available on iTunes and Recochoku.jp. You can find out more about the band’s profile and works on their official website as well as their YouTube channel.
